INTRODUCTION
The VSO’s mission is based on a commitment to excellence in artistic creation and in engaging the individuals we serve. Music education is a key to the orchestra’s ability to sustain a receptive audience for the future. The Symphony’s Education and Community Engagement programs are designed to share the gift of music with audiences of all ages, and this is reaffirmed in the Education Mission Statement: To foster appreciation, increase knowledge, and encourage performance of classical music through multi-faceted programs for people of all ages. The Education and Community Engagement Department touches the lives of 53,000 people per season through concerts, lectures and presentations, in-school residencies, master classes, open rehearsals, student performances, collaborations with other organizations and an array of community engagement programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Education and Community Engagement Intern’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting the Director and Education Coordinator with the Department’s programs and presentations
- Assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Education and Community Engagement Department
The Education and Community Engagement intern will also assist with administrative and general education/community engagement duties, and at times support the VSO Education and Community Engagement Department at the various venues at which the VSO and its musicians appears. The Education and Community Engagement intern is supervised by the Education Coordinator and assists in all education/community engagement needs. The intern is eligible for complimentary tickets when available.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should possess strong writing, organizational and interpersonal skills; interest in gaining valuable and direct experience in the Education Department of a performing arts organization. College students at the junior, senior and graduate levels studying music/arts administration, music education, communication or with interest in the non-profit sector are preferred.
