Dennis Herring, horn
Currently in his thirtieth year as a member of the Virginia Symphony, Dennis Herring has been playing with the Symphony since he was a student at Old Dominion University. He has also been a member of many other local music ensembles, including the Norfolk Chamber Orchestra, The Peninsula Symphony, the Virginia Opera, and the Virginia Beach Pops. In addition, Dennis has performed with the Savannah Symphony, the Barry White Love Unlimited Orchestra, and the Great American Music Ensemble big band at Kennedy Center. Dennis recently took a year's leave from the orchestra to play principal horn with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in Guangzhou, China. He can often be found in the orchestra pit of the Broadway At Chrysler Hall series.
Dennis is a Hampton native and teaches in the Hampton City Schools as a band teacher. He is an avid do-it-yourselfer who enjoys carpentry and house renovations. Dennis also enjoys music composition and dabbles in electronic music. His most memorable moments with the Virginia Symphony include meeting and playing under Aaron Copland (he still has his autographed score of Appalachian Spring) and the Symphony's Carnegie Hall debut.
