Jocelyn Smith, viola

Violist Jocelyn Smith grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she began string and piano studies at the age of nine. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in viola performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Chauncey Patterson and Lisa Boyko. Ms. Smith has played in numerous ensembles throughout northeast Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, including the symphonies in Canton, Akron, Youngstown, and Wheeling. For several years she was the violist of the Youngstown Symphony String Quartet, an ensemble whose main focus was to bring the knowledge and joy of music to children in the greater Youngstown area. Ms. Smith is currently in her sixth season as a member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. She is also a founding member, along with husband and cellist Peter Greydanus and violinist Tara-Louise Montour, of the Clivia String Trio, which performs often through Young Audiences of Virginia. Ms. Smith resides in Norfolk with her husband and their two cats, Lily and Fidelle.
