Alicia Waite, horn
2007-2008 marks Alicia’s fourth season as second horn of the Virginia Symphony. In addition to her work with the symphony, she has performed with the Norfolk Chamber Consort and as a guest soloist on The Organ Swell recital series each spring. Prior to joining the VSO, Alicia played Assistant/Utility Horn with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for the first half of their 2003-2004 season and was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for two seasons. During the summer months, Alicia has performed with the Britt Festival Orchestra, Shaker Mountain Opera Orchestra, and Colorado College Summer Chamber Music Festival.
Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, Alicia moved to the Midwest after high school to continue her formal education in music. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance from Lawrence University and her Master of Music degree, also in Horn Performance, from Northwestern University where she studied with William Barnewitz and Gail Williams.
In her spare time Alicia loves to read, create scrapbooks, and travel the country visiting family and friends. She also enjoys running, biking, and hiking year-round in Virginia’s near perfect climate.
