The Virginia Symphony’s mission is based on a commitment to excellence in artistic creation and in engaging the individuals we serve. Music education is a key to the orchestra’s ability to sustain a receptive audience for the future. The Symphony’s Education and Community Engagement programs are designed to share the gift of music with audiences of all ages, and this is reaffirmed in the Education Mission Statement:
To foster appreciation, increase knowledge, and encourage performance of classical music through multi-faceted programs for people of all ages.
The Education and Community Engagement Department touches the lives of over 53,000 people per season through concerts, lectures and presentations, in-school residencies, master classes, open rehearsals, student performances, collaborations with other organizations and an array of community engagement programs.
