MATTHEW KRAEMER

1. Where did you grow up?
Richmond, IN

2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Two older brothers

3. Do you have any pets?
Casanova, an 11-year-old Maltese

4. In school what was your favorite subject and why did you like it?
Music; I always got an A in that one. I also liked history.

5. Be honest!! What kind of student were you? Where you the class clown, the quiet one, the brainy one?
I was a bit of a joker, but I studied hard.

6. Was there a favorite family vacation that stands out in your mind? Why did you like it so much?
Disney World. We went on rides all day and ate way too much food.

7. Do you play an instrument? At what age did you start?
I play the violin and I started in 5th grade.

8. Did you ever change instruments?
No, although I did teach myself some guitar in high school so that I could be in a band.

9. Who is your hero and why?
My parents. They are such a positive and supportive presence in my life.

10. Who is your favorite superhero?
Batman. Definitely.

11. What is your favorite sports team?
Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Indians

12. Did you ever play sports growing up?
I played just about every sport in school. I was terrible at all of them. That’s why I stuck with music.

13. What type of non-classical music do you prefer? Any artist in particular?
I really like jazz.

14. What do you like to do in your free time?
I wish I had more free time, maybe I’d learn to tango or something cool like that. I do enjoy reading and I exercise regularly (not too interesting, huh?)

15. If you had to choose another profession, which profession would you like to give a try?
I’d want to be a history or foreign language teacher. If you ask me tomorrow I might have different answer. I have too many interests!

16. When you are on stage how do you feel? Do you ever get nervous?
I get nervous sometimes. It’s natural. After a few minutes it goes away and I feel great. Preparation is the most important thing. Do your homework!

17. What is your favorite piece of classical music?
A piece by the Czech composer Leos Janacek called Sinfonietta. 12 trumpets! It’s really an awesome piece.
