Virginia Symphony Lights Up the Season with Holiday Concerts
Classical Christmas, A Holiday Celebration, Manhattan Transfer Pops, Family Holiday Special, and HollyDazzle featured in December
Hampton Roads, VA…Festive concerts in Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg offer holiday delights for everyone. It all begins Friday, November 30, 6:30pm with a free HollyDazzle concert at the Marriott in City Center in Newport News. Akiko Fujimoto from the College of William and Mary conducts a concert of such pop favorites as “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Let It Snow,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Babes in Toyland.”
Classical Christmas featuring works by Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky and Handel (Messiah Christmas music) Classical Christmas will be performed Friday, December 14, 8pm, Ferguson Center for the Arts; Saturday, December 15, 8pm, Chrysler Hall; and Sunday, December 16, 2:30pm. Assistant Conductor Matthew Kraemer conducts the concerts featuring the Virginia Symphony Chorus and violinists Simon LaPointe and Elizabeth Coulter Vonderheide.
Wednesday, December 19, 8pm, St. Bede Catholic Church, Williamsburg and Friday, December 21, 8pm, Regent University Theatre, the VSO presents Holidays with the VSO presenting a festival of Leroy Anderson music including Sleigh Ride, Suite of Carols as well as holiday music by Tchaikovsky, Bach and Corelli.
Saturday, December 22, 8pm, Chrysler Hall will resound with the jazz-pop sounds of holiday classics by the Grammy-winning Manhattan Transfer in a Pops Christmas.
Sunday, December 23, 3pm, Chrysler Hall, the Symphony concludes its festival of holiday concerts with a Family Holiday concert. The Virginia Children’s Chorus, with artistic director Carol Thomas Downing, joins the VSO in presenting children’s holiday classics from The Grinch, Rudolph, Frosty and more.
