Let’s Go to the Movies!
Free Outdoor Virginia Symphony Concerts Salute Hollywood
Hampton Roads, VA… A warm spring evening, musical themes from your favorite movies floating in the air…it all sets the stage for the orchestra’s end of season free outdoor concerts. Bring a light picnic supper and your favorite beach chair or blanket and sit on the lawn as Associate Conductor Matthew Kraemer and the musicians of the orchestra salute film scores in concerts Friday, May 29, 7:30pm, City Center Oyster Point, Newport News and Saturday, May 30, 7:30pm, on the lawn of Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester. Relive The Bridge on the River Kwai as you listen to the Colonel Bogey March, imagine yourself flying from building to building with Spiderman, or slinking around with the Pink Panther. And there is still Batman, Star Trek and Star Wars. You’ll hear it all as the Virginia Symphony ends it season on a light musical note.
In case of rain, the Newport News concert will move indoors to Hampton Roads Academy. There is no rain location for the Gloucester concert.
The Virginia Symphony will open its new season in September with Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto and Stravinsky’s Fireworks. For subscriptions for the new season, visit the VSO online at virginiasymphony.org or call the Symphony Box Office, 757-892-6366.
