Virginia Symphony Chamber Orchestra Series Premieres September 21

Smithfield Little Theatre home to three-concert series

Hampton Roads, VA…The Virginia Symphony Orchestra inaugurates its three-concert Chamber Orchestra series in Smithfield, Friday, September 21, 7:30pm at the Smithfield Little Theatre. Each concert offers music lovers an intimate setting to see their favorite musicians perform a classical repertoire. These small “chambers,” or cluster groups of musicians, bring the music to life as it was meant to be played, without a conductor.

The first concert in the Grand Tour series features the music of Italy and Spain by composers Rota, Rodrigo, Arriga and Verdi. The chamber concert will be performed by Debra Wendells Cross, principal flute, Barbara Chapman, principal harp, Pavel Ilyashov, violin, Tara-Louise Montour, violin, Jocelyn Smith, viola, Carter Melin, cello, Simon Lapointe, principal second violin, Mayu Cipriano, violin, Jennifer Snyder Kozoroz, assistant principal viola, and Rebecca Gilmore, cello.

“We are delighted to be able to add a new chamber concert series in Smithfield this year,” said Music Director JoAnn Falletta. “Our wonderful musicians are looking forward to taking our audiences on a musical Grand Tour through Italy and Spain, France and England and Germany and Russia.”

The second concert in the Grand Tour chamber series featuring the music of France and England will be Wednesday, November 14, 7:30pm at the Smithfield Little Theatre, followed by the final concert in the series, Friday, March 14, 7:30pm.

Tickets for the full three-concert series are $45. Single tickets are $20 per concert.  For ticket information, visit www.smithfieldmusic.org or call (757) -357-7891.

Series presented in partnership with Smithfield Music, Smithfield Little Theatre and the Smithfield and Isle of Wight Tourism Bureau.
