Concertmaster Vahn Armstrong, Other Principal Players Featured in Chamber Concerts
Salon Series in Yorktown, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk on April 25
Hampton Roads, VA. The Virginia Symphony’s Salon Series comes to an end April 25 with the final set of chamber concerts for this season. Each concert offers music lovers an intimate setting to see their favorite musicians perform a classical repertoire. These small “chambers,” or cluster groups of musicians, bring the music to life as it was meant to be played, without a conductor.
The three concerts in the series will be presented Wednesday, April 25, 8pm in Virginia Beach at the Contemporary Art Center (Oboe, Etc.), in Suffolk at the Suffolk Center for the Cultural Arts (Kabardinian Themes), and in Yorktown at the Historic Freight Shed (Souvenir of Florence). The concerts include works by Prokofiev, Debussy, Mozart, Dvorak, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky.
The Symphony’s Concertmaster and several principal musicians join with the cluster groups of musicians to perform the classical music throughout the region. Those featured are Sherie Aguirre, principal oboe, Patti Carlson, principal clarinet, and David Wick, principal horn in Virginia Beach, Michael Daniels, principal cello, Deborah Cross, principal flute, Beverly Baker, principal viola, Barbara Chapman, principal harp, and Scott Harris, principal bass in Suffolk, and Concertmaster Vahn Armstrong in Yorktown.
Tickets for the concert are $20. For information, contact the Symphony Box Office, 757.892.6366 or online: www.virginiasymphony.org
