Peninsula and Williamsburg Youth Orchestras to Perform with Virginia Symphony

January 27th 2008 Family Concert at Ferguson Center Features Young Performers

Hampton Roads, VA… The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will present Tchaikovsky!, a Peanut Butter and Jam Family Concert at the Ferguson Center for the Arts, Sunday January 27, 2008, at 3 pm.  The concert led by Symphony Assistant Conductor Matthew Kraemer features a program of Tchaikovsky favorites including “Sleeping Beauty,” “Swan Lake,” and “The Nutcracker.”  Young musicians of the Peninsula Youth Orchestra and the Williamsburg Youth Orchestra will perform side-by-side with Virginia Symphony musicians.

One of the Virginia Symphony’s thriving education programs, a Side by Side performance gives young musicians the chance to be part of a professional orchestra for a night and share the stage with their professional counterparts. The result is usually an impressive concert with a 69+ piece orchestra that provides a rewarding experience for Symphony musicians, students and audiences.

This is the only PB&J Family Concert that will be presented at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in the 2007-2008 season. Two additional PB&J concerts were announced for the Peninsula but funding became unavailable for the concerts. Four PB&J Family concerts will be presented at Chrysler Hall on Sunday, September 16, Sunday, December 23, Saturday, January 26 and Sunday, April 13.

Concert tickets are $9 -$22. To purchase tickets for PB&J Family concerts, call the Symphony Box Office, 757-892-6366 or visit: www.virginiasymphony.org.
